Italian volleyball is legend: the Azzurri are World Champions once again

After the triumph of the women’s team, the men’s national side has also claimed the world title, giving Italy a historic double gold that will remain etched in the memory of all volleyball fans. In Manila, Ferdinando De Giorgi’s men defeated Bulgaria with a clear 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-10), confirming themselves as world champions for the second time in a row and securing the fifth title in their extraordinary history.

It was an exhilarating journey: after a group stage with a few uncertainties, the team grew stronger and more confident, sweeping past Argentina, Belgium, and Poland on their way to the final. There, the Azzurri showed maturity, cohesion, and remarkable team spirit: after imposing their rhythm in the first two sets and conceding the third to Bulgaria, they sealed the match with a stunning 25-10 in the fourth set.

Key figures included Yuri Romanò, unstoppable with 22 points and 5 aces, and Mattia Bottolo, with 19 points and 7 aces. Alongside them, the reliability of Michieletto, Anzani, Russo, and the leadership of captain Simone Giannelli, the beating heart of the team both on and off the court.

This triumph is even more meaningful as it comes only weeks after the women’s world title: two golds in the same year, a result previously achieved only by the Soviet Union back in 1960. Today, Italy stands as the world capital of volleyball.
